Is this the same as a BLS (Basic Life Support) course?
Some of the topics are the same, but No, Heartsaver and BLS are two different courses. If you are working in a healthcare-related occupation, or entering school in a healthcare discipline, like LPN, RN, EMT, RadTech, Dental Hygiene, Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy Tech, even Phlebotomy, you probably need a BLS Provider certification, not a Heartsaver CPR certification.
Most nursing schools require: “American Heart Association CPR for Healthcare Providers”. That wording is confusing, but they require BLS Provider certification, formerly called BLS for Healthcare Providers course. Generally, if patients are cared for, most employers and licensing boards require BLS training. CNA is a little different, some require BLS, some CPR/AED, and some First Aid/CPR/AED.
