AHA HeartCode BLS Skills Session
Who it’s for: Learners who completed AHA HeartCode BLS Online Part 1 and need the hands-on, in-person skills test. This is AHA-approved, OSHA-approved, legitimate, in-person skills training with an authorized instructor. Just the video portion, and exam portion is completed online, prior to the in-person skills check.
Where to get the online portion? at (official AHA site): https://elearning.heart.org/course/1511 (You pay AHA $37 for the HeartCode BLS online portion). The second part is done hands-on, in-person with an instructor. It costs $45 for a scheduled in-person hands-on HeartCode BLS skills session. We do have them 8 to 10 times per month.
Format: In-person skills practice and skills test.
Length: 1 hour
Prerequisite: HeartCode BLS Online Part 1 (email your online completion certificate).
Credential: AHA BLS Provider eCard upon successful skills check. 2-year certification.
Next steps: Book a scheduled BLS skills session on our Schedule page (at least 8 skills sessions per month!).
FAQ: If our scheduled skills times don’t work, can we do a custom skills session, just for you? Yes, you provide the space, home or office, and $55 for that service. Do we provide Heartsaver CPR skills or First Aid/CPR skills, yes but those are $55.
Does HeartCode BLS blended learning provide the same certification card?
Yes. After completing HeartCode BLS online, and completing the in-person BLS skills session, we provide you with the same AHA BLS Provider card that you would receive from a four-hour BLS classroom training course.
HeartCode BLS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the BLS Provider Course. HeartCode BLS blended learning delivers quality resuscitation education regardless of where providers are located and gives them more control to complete the course at their own pace.
HeartCode BLS certification happens in two parts:
Part 1: Students complete the online portion (HeartCode BLS Online (from shopcpr.heart.org, or from elearning.heart.org/course/1511 https://elearning.heart.org/course/1511 You pay AHA $37 for that portion. Takes about 1:20 of your time, then email the completed certificate to us, sam@newnanCPR.com .
and then complete a hands-on skills session with an AHA BLS Instructor or on a simulation station. That skills session will likely take 1 hour to 1:20 of your time.
You even get access to the new 2025 AHA BLS eBook (25-3102) when you access the HeartCode BLS online portion.
Is This Online Only Certification?
No. This is legitimate hands-on, in-person skills training with a trained instructor.
OK – I will diss online-only certification. It is rare that an employer, business or insurance company, that requires some or all employees to be trained in BLS, CPR, or First Aid, will accept an online-only certification. Forget that the online-only company said they would refund your money if it is NOT accepted by your employer, school, hospital, or nursing/dental licensing agency. They have many hoops to jump through, like “IF your hospital CEO writes us on letterhead, explaining why the card was not accepted, we will refund you”. AVOID online-only certification. Just for awareness, and information, or as a refresher for skills, just to watch, not expecting a card, sure, would be useful. Needing a certification card – will not be accepted.
Why is online-only bad? Well, both first aid skills and CPR skills are psycho motor skills. You can learn some knowledge about resuscitation, cardiac arrest, chest compressions from watching a computer or tablet. The required skills training needs to be done in person. OSHA even says nay-nay, skills need to be verified with an authorized instructor.
